Kamyanets-Podilskiy is one of the oldest cities of Ukraine, located in Khmelnitsky region. Due to unique combination of historical and architectural, urban heritage, landscape canyon Smotrich, the "Old Town" is declared a state of historical-architectural reserve.
Since XI century was known as Kamyanets, which was associated with the nature of ground rocky terrain. The "Old Town" is located on a peninsula surrounded by the canyon, at the bottom of which flows past the river Smotrich. The “Old Town” is the ancient historical and cultural complex, which consists of ancient architectural constructions reflecting the culture of people who lived there at different times. The “Old Town” is connected with the central part of the city “Novoplanovym“ bridge. Steep rocky banks of the river Smotrich attracted climbers to Kamyanets-Podilskiy.
Number of architectural monuments XI-XIX centuries nearly 200 buildings. Powerful defensive fortifications of the "Old Town", the castle and fortress bridge, Turkish bastion and the connection places of worship of different religions leave a unique impression. Rich architectural and historical heritage of the "Old Town" was recommended like a candidate for register of world cultural heritage in May 1994 by the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO.
